Services for Nellwyn Mooney Hess, 75, are set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Phil Petta and Reverend Mark Loewen.
Mrs. Hess died Wednesday, December 2, 2015.
Nell was born October 22, 1940 in Decatur to H.M. and Mary Jo Hopson Mooney. On December 1, 1979, she married Henry Hess, Jr.
Nell Hess was an elementary teacher for Gainesville ISD at Franklin and Lindsay Elementary Schools for many years. She loved teaching her students and sharing her love of reading and storytelling. In retirement, Nell was a regular at the Stanford House in Gainesville where she enjoyed the company of her friends. She also enjoyed going to the Whitesboro dances. Nell loved to watch her grandsons’ sporting events, and she went to many basketball games.
Survivors include daughters Jennifer Johnson-Spence of Lindsay, Texas, Monica and husband Michael Parkhill of Lindsay, Texas; grandsons Madison Parkhill and Merrick Parkhill of Lindsay, Texas; siblings and their respective spouses Dudley Mooney, Laura Brewer, Mary Hubbard, Mart and Linda Mooney, Dana and Jimmie Williams, Molly and Glenn Crawshaw; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents; siblings Michael Mooney, Tim Mooney, and Virginia Ann Henry.
Visitation will be Sunday at the George J. Carroll Funeral Home of Gainesville from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
