Carl Moore

September 8, 1931 — November 25, 2015

"We build and rebuild as long as we live, the foundation or perhaps a wall or so may remain the same, but for the most part, we build and rebuild as long as we live." -Unknown

Dr. Carl H. Moore, Jr. was reunited with his lovely wife Dorothy on November 25, 2015. His peaceful departure from this realm in Gainesville, Texas left us saddened but also filled us with speculations of the joyous occasion this must have been in heaven. We take great comfort in knowing that he has met our Lord and is happily surrounded by those who have preceded him in death. He has left us with a foundation that cannot be shaken due to the model he set before us. So as we remember him, we will continue to build and rebuild on this solid ground.

Carl was born on September 8, 1931 in Gillette, Wyoming to Carl H., Sr. and Lela Wilmetta (Taylor) Moore, he was the first son. He was the younger brother to Billie Lee (Moore) Stephens and three more siblings would join this family, spanning the next fifteen years; Robert Moore-"Bob", Larry Moore and Caroline Anne (Moore) Scheurer-"Honey". The family home was a log house in Gillette and stories shared of childhood are those of a home filled with activity, full of laughter, and though not large, always room for company.

Carl attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he studied dentistry. He served his country as a navigator during the Korean War and his duties included checking planes prior to the next mission for a variety of service men including those who made history, Neal Armstrong.

He married his wife Dorothy (Henderson) Moore in 1963; she was a widow and mother to three children, Roger Shea, Cheryl Shea, and Reece Shea. Carl and Dorothy then welcomed two more children to their home; daughters Carlene (Moore) Gallagher and Chrisse (Moore) Olsson. The family resided in Belle Fourche, South Dakota for a number of years where Carl practiced his dentistry, was the owner of the Belle Fourche airport, and all were active members in the Open Bible Church. Other places he and Dorothy would live included Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Custer, South Dakota, Rapid City, South Dakota, and eventually Denton, Texas.

He played basketball in youth and golfed throughout his life, but his true love was playing "let's make a deal" and this he had crafted into a fine art form. Carl loved flying planes, buying planes, driving cars, buying cars, but most of all, he truly loved the sell. He so enjoyed the hunt for the perfect "flip" and generally speaking was able to turn it around with a favorable outcome.

Carl's devotion to family, friends, and God were highly evident throughout his life. Serving Christ in multiple functions over the years included; teaching Sunday School, juvenile prison ministry, delivering Gideon bibles to inmates, Kenneth Copeland Ministries, and simply never passing on a moment to share the good news of Jesus with those in need. Carl also served in countless ways to family by being a role model, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother. He understood the importance and necessity of keeping Christ at the head of the table.

Those who preceded Carl in death are; his wife-Dorothy Moore, parents-Carl Moore,Sr. and Lela Moore, grandparents- Wilbert and Caroline Taylor, brother-Robert "Bob" Moore, sister-Caroline "Honey" Scheurer, daughter- Cheryl Shea, and nephews-Gregory Stephens and James Scheurer, Jr.

His spirit and zeal for life is ever present with those surviving him, including; children-Carlene and John Gallagher of Argyle, TX; Chrisse and Shaun Olsson of Burnsville, MN; Roger and Janet Shea of Greeley, CO; and Reece and Lili Shea of Ft Worth, TX. He had the privilege of loving several grandchildren and great-grandchildren while here. Carl (Bud, Doc) Moore will be forever remembered by those whose lives were blessed with him, both family and friends, whom he loved so dearly.

A memorial service is set for February 27th at 1 PM. It will be at Open Bible Christian Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
