Sara Billie Tyler

November 10, 1923 — January 18, 2016

Funeral services for Sara Billie Tippit Tyler, life-time resident of Gainesville, are set for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Yeager officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Saturday, one hour before the service at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tyler passed away from this earth to her heavenly reward on January 18, 2016 in Gainesville. She was born on November 10, 1923 in Gainesville to the late Gladys Snell Wilson Tippit and John Lee Tippit Sr.

Sara Billie was educated in Gainesville schools, graduating from Gainesville High School Class of 1941, the attending Gainesville Junior College. She was employed by the United States Post Office, working in the finance department in Gainesville.

On September 2, 1944, she married William A. (Bill) Tyler. She was a devoted wife, homemaker, and mother of four children. She was an active church member, serving in many organizations within the church. She was a member of the Garden Study Club, Maggie House Garden Club, and the City Garden Council, where she served in many offices. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and American cancer Association. She was president of the McMurray P.T.A. and the Garden Study Club. She loved her church work and served 3 years as president of the First United Methodist Women, worked with the youth, and was honored with a 20 Year Service Certificate for her work in the Second Time Around church store. She also earned a service plaque from the American Cancer Association.

Her hobbies included arts and crafts, biking, dancing, bridge, and serving others. She enjoyed all of the church work and civic projects.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on October 7, 1991; her parents; and her brother John Lee "Buddy" Tippit Jr.

She is survived by son Gregg Tyler and his wife Cathy of Gainesville; son Mark Tyler and his wife Mary of Houston; son Rod Tyler and his wife Ramona of Gainesville; daughter Suzanne McCann of Port Aransas; grandson Andrew Tyler; granddaughters Mary McCann, Melanie McCann, Chrisite Smith and family; step-grandsons Matthew Holder and Michael Keen; nephew John Lee Tippit III and his family; nephew Tyler Vance; nephew Joe Hemphill; niece Mary Ann Nunley; cousins JoAnn Cook, and Margie Hammond.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to acknowledge Just Like Home in Whitesboro, and Pecan Tree Manor in Gainesville for the excellent care given to Sara Billie in her time of need.
