Betty Gene Roane went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 22, 2016 at the age of 90. She was born in Gainesville, Texas on March 15, 1925 to John and Verna Brooks. Betty graduated from Gainesville High School in 1942 and married Owen D. (Cowboy) Roane on May 22, 1943 before he left to serve his country in World War II. After his return from the war, they purchased a farm east of Valley View. In 1948 Owen re-entered the service for the Berlin Airlift. They traveled extensively during his career in the Air Force, and she continued her love for travel after he retired.
Betty was a devout Christian and served in many leadership roles for her churches. She cherished spending time with her family and friends, especially during holidays. She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, and playing bridge with her friends or other card games with her family. She looked forward to attending the 100th Bomb Group reunions and visiting with military friends from the service.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her son John Roane and wife Gail of Valley View, TX; son Tom Roane and wife Cherilyn of Alvord, TX; daughter Martha Reedy and husband Randy of Montgomery, TX; and daughter Carol Roane of Chesterbrook, PA.
She leaves eight grandchildren – Cindy Chadwick and husband Bill, J. D. Roane and wife Kay, Amy Bazemore and husband Corey, Leslie Williams and husband Kyle, Cara Pulver and husband Evan, Amber Oglesby and husband Matt, Jessica Roane, and Hayley Roane. She also leaves thirteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at the funeral home’s chapel at 10 am on January 28, 2016.
