Graveside services for Robert Paul Henley, Jr., 70, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Mark Loewen officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mr. Henley passed away February 1, 2016 in Gainesville.
Bob was born June 19, 1945 in Great Bend, KS to Robert Paul Henley, Sr. and Oleta Ruth (Daurity) Henley. His father was a civil engineer and repaired and rebuilt airplanes there and in England during the war. He died when Bob was only 12. His mother was the owner of The Fashion Shop of Gainesville.
“Bob” as he was more commonly known, was an avid reader, loved racing as a young man, and held a BS and MA in Industrial Arts. He was pursuing a Doctorate Degree at North Texas State University when he realized he would have to move the family to another state as he had had 2 previous degrees in that college. He wanted to remain close to his roots.
Bob was also known at General Dynamics and later for Lockheed Martin, for his amazing knowledge and creativity with mechanical problems. Previous to these accomplishments, he worked for Euless High School as an Industrial Arts Instructor for 3 years. When the family moved home to Gainesville Bob worked at Sanders Church Furniture, as he was also talented in woodworking, before joining National Supply as a tool designer. Bob always kept a notepad by his bed so as to take notes if he woke up during the night with ideas.
Bob had 3 children: Rob, Jon and Kathleen Henley Muller and 7 grandchildren; Kate, Lauren, Garrett, Ava, Lauren, Trenton,
John Jr. and Kenley. Bob will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to a Gainesville organization of your choice.
