Jimmye Carol Dawson Carter
A memorial service for Jimmye Carol Dawson Carter, 71, of Lake Kiowa, is set for 1:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery 10:30 AM Friday, February 19, 2016. No visitation is planned.
Jimmye was born on August 8, 1944 in Durant, Oklahoma to James and Margaret (Green) Dawson. She passed away on February 14, 2016 in Gainesville.
After graduation from Sherman High School in 1962, she received a B.S. in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State College in Durant, and later a M.Ed. in Language Learning Disabilities from Texas Woman's University. At Southeastern, Jimmye was a member of Delta Zeta Soroity. While attending Southeastern, Jimmye met Louis Carter, and they were married on November 25, 1964. Jimmy was a teacher in the Plainview, Gainesville, and Collinsville schools before retiring in 2004. She was actively involved in the Gainesville chapter of Beta Sigma Pi Sorority for many years.
Jimmye is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Misty and James Shepard, grandchildren, Keela Carter and Brady Shepard, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Arno Lindorfer, brother-in-law Roy Robertson, and sister-in-laws Verna Ward and Erma Crowder.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louis; son Chad Carter; granddaughter Kymberlee Carter; parents James and Margaret Dawson; niece Alison Lindorfer; mother-in-law Mary Robertson; and brother-in-law Jerry Robertson.
The family would like to give special thanks to friends and neighbors Pat and Jim Williams, Norma Crew, Mimi Otts, and Shirley Meece.
