Betty Jean Henderson

Funeral Services for Betty Jean Henderson, 86, of Callisburg, are set for 2:00 PM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Karen Martinez officiating and Dr. Tom Peel assisting. Burial will follow in the Callisburg Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 6:30 - 8:00 PM.

Betty was born on December 6, 1929 in Callisburg to Weldon Willard and Ruby (Crawford) Boley. She passed away on April 26, 2016 in Callisburg.

Betty married Robert A. (Bob) Henderson on July 14, 1956 in Callisburg. When her husband retired in 1987, they returned to Callisburg where Betty took on many projects. She was the driving force in creating the 10 acre Parkhill Park in Callisburg. Through donations and grants, she was able to procure playground equipment, a pavilion, walking trail, baseball field, and volleyball court. She and Bob planted trees, flowers, and shrubs at the Callisburg United Methodist Church, Callisburg Community Club, and the park. Together, they maintained them for over 10 years.

She entered a Keep Texas Beautiful contest and won a $60,000.00 award for landscaping at the city limit of Callisburg.

She worked with TXDOT to get landscaping installed by the car wash and she maintained the landscaping . Starting in 1992, she organized twice a year litter pick-ups on 4 mile stretches of FM 678 and FM 2896. She was awarded the North Texas Community Services Award for her volunteer work. Betty also worked as a volunteer at the Gainesville Hospital for 12 years, and volunteered at Kids for Christ every Wednesday at the Callisburg United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband Bob Henderson of Callisburg; daughter Alison Hild and her husband Greg of Calgary, Canada; son Brett Henderson and his wife Mona of Sugar Land; granddaughters Kira Castro and her husband Mario, Rachel Porubensky and her husband Ryan, Marin Hild, Melissa Henderson, Victoria Henderson; and great-grand daughters Aria and Lenna Castro. She is also survived by her brother Jack Boley and his wife Joyce of Midland; sister Elizabeth Mendenhall and her husband Dean of Callisburg; sister Peggy Peel and her husband Tom of San Antonio; sister Carolyn Hassel and her husband Dale of Callisburg; brother Richard Boley and his wife Jo of Sacramento, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
