Alfred Gerald Hess born June 17, 1937 to John and Edna (Bicshoff) Hess in Muenster, Texas. He died October 30, 2016 in Gainesville, Texas. Alfred attended Sacred Heart School in Muenster and played football. He had many fond memories of his team and classmates. On July 18, 1959 he married the love of his life Ann Doris Neu. After High School Alfred worked in the Oilfield for Felderhoff Brothers and Linda Jo Shoe Factory before beginning his 33 year career at the MKT (Katy Railroad) which was acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a section foreman and made many friends during his time there and gathered many stories.
Alfred was a devout Catholic and attended church regularly. He made sure his children attended Catholic schools, and helped with numerous fall festivals and served on many committees. He renovated old houses for rental properties, and was an excellent carpenter. He was quick to help his children with DIY projects.
Alfred loved the outdoors and enjoyed raising cattle and riding horses. He planted many trees through the years and was especially proud of his Pecan, and Oak trees. He enjoyed his family and would always play a game of dominoes. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren always made him smile.
He is survived by his sons Doug Hess & wife Natalie of Lindsay, Texas. Greg Hess & Tracie DeAnda of Callisburg, Texas; daughter Rhonda McKinzie and husband Jeff of Bolivar, Texas;brothers Wilfred Hess and wife Virginia; sister Wanda Hermes; sister Delores Neu and husband Leroy, sister-in-law Marcella Hess; brother-in-law Julius Metzler of Lindsay, Texas; grandsons Joshua Mabry of McKinney and Jeff Hess of Gainesville; granddaughters: Elaine Goldsmith and husband Josh, Christy Dennis and husband Marcus, Vanessa Zimmerer and husband David of Lindsay, Holli Hess of Bryan, Texas; great-grandchildren: Andrew, Emilie, Aubrey Goldsmith, Nora, Evelyn Dennis.
Proceeded in death by his wife Ann, son Russell, Parents John, Edna, Brother John Louis, Sister Marcella Metzler.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to all loving caregivers that we hold close to our hearts.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, November 3, 2016 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Phil Petta officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
