Jean Mitchell, 87, of Sherman passed away on November 9, 2016 at the Homestead Nursing Home. Mrs. Mitchell was born on September 19, 1929 in Littlefield. She was one of four children born to Lloyd and Minnie Craft. She graduated from Wilson Oklahoma High School in 1946. Jean and her husband, Jim Reed owned Gimme A Break Catering for several years.
Jean loved to read the Bible. She and Jim Reed, with God's guidance, were instrumental in founding Gainesville Bible Church under the direction of Denton Bible Church.
Mrs Mitchell was preceded in death by her husbands Jim Reed and Kenneth Mitchell; her parents; brother Curtis Craft; sister Geneva Fisher; and sister Gerry Gulsvig.
She is survived by her son Kent Claxton; daughter Terri Atterbury and her husband Gary; son Craig Claxton and his wife Sherrie; step-daughter Jaymie Reed; grandchildren Lance Hillis and his wife Holly, Natalie Smelley and her husband Chris, Trey Atterbury and his wife Casey, Jerrick Claxton, Zach Claxton, Nate Claxton and his wife Amber, and Michael Reed. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Cruz Claxton, Parker Hillis, Ava Hillis, Asher Hillis, Aiden Hillis, and Kinley Atterbury.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, one hour before the service, at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
