Willie Maurece Claunch

Funeral services for Willie Maurece Claunch, 93, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Dr. Bennie Slack officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Claunch passed away December 3, 2016 in Gainesville.

Willie was born April 28, 1923 in Whitesboro to A.B. and Diamond (Cox) Garvin. She graduated from Gainesville High School, where she played trumpet in the marching band. Willie, along with other members of her family, participated in the Gainesville Community Circus in various capacities. She met Master Sergeant William A. Claunch, Jr. while she was working at First State Bank, and the two were wed on March 3, 1943 in Gainesville. Mrs. Claunch also worked at the ASCS Office and the Girl’s State School. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, and traveling with her husband.

Survivors include: son William Garvin Claunch and his wife Jenny of McKinney; daughter Jeanne Ann Hummer of LaMirada, CA; son David Claunch and his wife Kay of Valley View; grandchildren: Erik, Ashlee, Christopher, and Gina; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Claunch was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and sister Alvah Belle McWilliams.

Memorial may be made to: Home Hospice of Cooke County, First Baptist Church of Gainesville, or a charity of one’s choosing.
