Joe Nichols

Joseph Y. Nichols died peacefully on December 3, 2016 in Gainesville, TX at the age of 79.

Joe was born on October 28, 1937 in Gainesville to Joe and Helen (Albers) Nichols. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1955. He married Sandy McDaniel, the love of his life, in 1960. Joe spent most of his career in law enforcement. His first job was working with the Texas Highway Patrol. In 1966 he began his career with Navy Criminal Investigations Services (NCIS). During his career, the family was stationed across the US and in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He retired from NCIS in 1989. After retirement from NCIS, Joe spent time as the Cooke County Sheriff, a rancher, and with Texas Baptist Men's ministries.

Joe loved to work and keep busy. He always had a list of his next projects. He was dedicated to his family, friends and projects. His love was for Sandy and his faith. He was an active and dedicated member of the Baptist church and, for many years, volunteered building churches with the Texas Baptist Men's group.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sandy Nichols of Gainesville; children: Grant M. Nichols of New York and Nancy Evans of La Marque; granddaughter Stephanie Evans of La Marque; a brother; two sisters; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law Steve Evans.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the same location. Dr. Eddie Chennault will officiate the ceremony. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joe's life.
