Joe Richardson, known to many as Daddy Joe, passed peacefully on December 15, 2016, at the age of 72. Born October 20, 1944, in Pilot Point, TX, Joe was the second of six children. He fell in love with Peggy Bowers in 1962 and they wed in 1964, just months before he was called to serve in the Vietnam War as a mechanic and wrecker driver for the 9th Signal Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division.
Upon returning to civilian life, Joe focused on raising his four children, dairy farming, and welding. Joe had an entrepreneurial spirit and a talent for raising livestock. With the help of his family, he built a homestead and dairy farm in Sadler, TX in the late 1970’s. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of good work ethic on the family farm. Joe worked for many years as a welder and a foreman at Texas Mfg. Co.
He loved a good story, especially a funny one, and shared his love of books and storytelling with his family. Above all, Joe was a devoted Christian family man and nothing pleased him more than to be surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren under his roof or in his backyard.
Joe was preceded in death by his father James Edward
“Ed” Richardson, his mother Dorothy Richardson, his sister Glenda Culpepper, and his great-granddaughter Brinley Sutton. He is survived by his wife Peggy, son and daughter-in-law Joe Jr. and Kathy Richardson, daughter and son-in-law Christie and Charlie Newberry, daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Matthew Moseley, daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and Sean O’Gorman, his ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his sisters Marchia Mordecai, Gail Cole, and Angie Lemons, his brother Marc Richardson, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 19, at 11:00 AM at the Sadler Cemetery located approximately one mile south of Hwy 82 on FM 901 in Sadler, TX.
