Heaven just gained a beautiful, feisty angel.

Funeral service for Jean Downing Smith, 57, of Gainesville, is set for 11:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Crossroads Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Taylor. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Jean was born on August 10, 1959 in Hollywood, Florida to Harvey Lavern and Nancy Lee (Norton) Downing. She passed away on February 20, 2017 in Gainesville.

She is survived by her mother Nancy Downing; husband Dave of Gainesville; son Michael Jaillet and his wife Sarah of Lewisville; son Rusty Smith of Gainesville; stepdaughter Tori Lynn Smith of Gainesville; stepson Slade Smith and his wife Heather of St. Paul, Minnesota; grandchildren Chace Carver, David York, and Dalton Bennett. She is also survived by her brother William "Bill" Downing and his wife Collette of Plano; brother Richard Downing of Lake Calendar; sister Laura Taber of Lake Calendar; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of close friends.

She was preceded in death by her father.
