John Gardner

The funeral service for John W. Gardner, 83, of Thackerville, OK, is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Kremling officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, March 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gardner passed away March 7, 2017 in Gainesville.

John was born December 12, 1933 in Slidell to Edward Cleo and Trudy Elizabeth (Garrett) Gardner. He married Marcene Bryant on October 28, 1955 in Thackerville. Mr. Gardner served in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Postal Service following 30 years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, reading, John Wayne movies, and caring for his cattle. Mr. Gardner could often be found at the Fried Pie Co. or Trail’s Inn Restaurant with the “Breakfast Club”. Above all else, he treasured the moments spent with his beloved family.

Survivors include: wife Marcene Gardner of Thackerville; daughter Sheril Barthold of Era; and granddaughter Brandi Hosking and husband Matt of Lewisville.

Mr. Gardener was preceded in death by: his parents; and brothers: Horace Gardner and Nolan Gardner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Era ISD Library, Cooke County Library, or Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter.
