Gary "Big Chief" Raymond Mayfield Sr.

A memorial service for Gary Raymond Mayfield Sr., 56, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Arthur Green officiating.

Mr. Mayfield passed away on March 20, 2017 in Denton.

Gary was born November 3, 1960 in Gainesville to Walter Ray and Shirley Ophelia (Caldwell) Mayfield. After graduating from Gainesville high school, he married Terry Lee Jones whom he had three children with. For many years he successfully owned and operated his own construction company. Known by many as “Big Chief”, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who adored their “PawPaw”. Gary loved his Dallas Cowboys and spent every Sunday watching the games with his many loved ones. At the time of his passing he was living happily with his current wife of 8 years Lanna. Gary had a close spiritual relationship with God and was an inspiration to many. Anyone who knew Gary knew that he would lend an ear, lend a hand, and greet you with a smile and a hug.

Survivors include: daughter Rachelle De La Rosa and husband Omar of Gainesville; son Gary Raymond Mayfield Jr. and wife Brittany of Gainesville; daughter Kayla Griffith of Gainesville; daughter Abby Miller and husband Clyde of Gainesville; daughter Amanda Mitchell and Mitchell Hankins of Gainesville; wife Lanna Smelley of Gainesville; mother of his children, Terry Lee Mayfield of Gainesville; and grandchildren: Cesar, Madi, Damian, Zoey, Jose, Maleigha, Brailynn, and Karissa.

Mr. Mayfield was preceded in death by: his parents; sister Shelia Rae Mayfield; and brother Walter Earl Mayfield.
