Helen Thomson went to be with the Angels on March 22, 2017, just shy of her 93rd birthday, surrounded by family.
Helen was born in O’Donnell, Texas on March 28, 1924, one of four children to Wesley Edwin and Ora Lee Marr. She went to Harris Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1945. She met the love of her life, Joseph Thomson at a USO dance and the couple was married in 1943. They had eight children and traveled the world. She followed him to every base, always a wonderful Army Wife. They finally settled in Lake Kiowa, where they lived for over 30 years.
Helen worked as a nurse, a translator, and set up preschools in post WWII Germany. She spoke fluent German and could also communicate in Spanish and Italian. She was a pioneer in many areas, especially Nursing. She was one of the first to graduate from the Nurse Practitioner program. She specialized in Geriatrics. After the birth of her last child, she went back to school and earned her Master’s in Humanities at the age of 53.
She led a full life with her husband Joe. They loved to travel, dance, meet new people, and play golf. She was a beautiful, witty, fun-loving woman that touched thousands of lives. She never met a stranger and was loved by all that knew her.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years, Joseph Thomson; daughter Patricia Louise; and son Joseph Michael.
Survivors include: son Tom and wife Deb; daughter Sandy Thomson; daughter Mary Reimann and husband Steve; daughter Theresa Thomson; daughter Anne Hess and husband Stuart; and son John Thomson and wife Diana. She had 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
