A.L. "Curly" Wiginton

Alton Lamar “Curly” Wiginton, 87, of Gainesville, passed peacefully from this earth on March 24, 2017 in Gainesville while surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred and Winnie Wiginton, and his wife Dorothy Wiginton.

He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Claudia Wiginton; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kathy Wiginton; grandchildren, Nicol Orndorff and husband Jason, Tiffany Lake and husband Kyle, Jonathan Wiginton, Chelsie Clark and husband Erik, Taylor Easley and husband Eric, Amber Shell and husband Zach; great-grandchildren, Taylor Orndorff, Darian Orndorff, Ava Lake, Presley Lake, Elle Lake, Brock Lake, Collins Clark, Kennedy Clark, Emma Shell, Ebbi Shell; sisters, Freda Jones and Beth Stair.

Curly was born on March 14, 1930 in Valera, TX. He married Dorothy Jean Diffee on September 28, 1949. Curly dedicated his life to serving the Lord and his family. His preaching career began in Edmonson, TX in 1963. He continued preaching in Fredrick, OK, Gainesville, TX, and Early, TX. Curly and his family moved to Gainesville, TX in 1969 where he became the preacher at Hillcrest Church of Christ. In 1974, he and Dorothy moved to Early, TX where he completed his preaching career and began selling cars.

Many activities on this earth gave him joy. These included: telling jokes, camping, fishing, traveling in his RV, and time with his family and friends. Although, he found the most joy in Dorothy, his wife of 65 years.

All who knew Curly knew his love for the Lord, family, and joke telling. While living his life as a follower of Christ, Curly provided countless lessons, jokes, and laughs that will surpass his time on earth.

Visitation and funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Hillcrest Church of Christ. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 am with David Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are: Jerry Wiginton, Mike Wiginton, Johnathan Wiginton, Erik Clark, Kyle Lake, and Jason Orndorff.
