Graveside services for Elbert Boyce Allred, 81, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Nelson Grove Cemetery with Rev. Larry Kremling officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 4 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Doorhanger passed away peacefully at home in Gainesville on April 3, 2017.
Doorhanger was born May 20, 1935 to Doc and Ruby Allred. He grew up and lived in the Woodbine and Gainesville area his entire life. He worked in the construction field by trade and built many homes in the DFW, Lake Kiowa, and surrounding areas. He had a great love for all kinds of animals. He greatly enjoyed his morning breakfasts at the Trails Inn, shooting the bull with the guys. Elbert married Del Walters on June 15, 1996. Although he had no children of his own, he loved Dewey and Kenneth Walters as if they were his sons.
Survivors include: wife Del; son Dewey and wife Cindi of Whitesboro; son Kenneth and wife Connie of Houston; grandchildren: Randal Walters of Whitewright, Tami Thomas and husband Cody, Tiffany Walters, Kendra Ethridge and husband Derek, all of Whitesboro, and Naylan Walters of Houston; and great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Rylie, Madison, Paytyn, Billy, and Preston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allred was preceded in death by: his parents; and his sisters: Polly Helm and Joy Richie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
