Services for Floyd Sevirne Bishop, 81, of Gainesville, Texas, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, 602 Lindsay St, with Pastor Tom Patzer and Pastor Buz Ztarrett officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.

Floyd passed away quietly Friday, May 5, in Gainesville, with his family at his side.

He was born May 11, 1935, in Fairfield, Texas, to Floyd Henry and Dorothy Ellen Bishop. He attended school in Smyer, Texas, and Gainesville, graduating from Gainesville High School in 1955. Floyd attended North Texas Community College for four years. He served in the U.S. Army’s 2nd Missile Batallion/NORAD at Allison Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. He worked for Southland Paint Co. in Gainesville for 20 years and then at the Gainesville Civic Center until he retired. He loved working there and enjoyed being around people.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Floyd married the love of his life on June 9, 1956, in Wichita Falls. He was a hard-working man and always took great care of his family. He enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri, and Petite Jean State Park in Arkansas. Floyd loved working in his shop, restoring classic cars, and collecting antiques, especially radios, lunchboxes, and bicycles, as well as maintaining a perfectly manicured lawn.

Floyd was a Seventh-Day Adventist and attended church in Gainesville.

He was well known for his friendly personality, and he never met a stranger, talking to everyone he met. Floyd had a heart of gold and would do anything to help those in need.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Janet Belz Bishop of Gainesville; daughter Teresa “Pyper” Roe and son-in-law Kim Roe of Oklahoma City, Okla.; son Steven Bishop and daughter-in-law Laurie Bishop of Gainesville; two granddaughters, Jamie Collette and Desiree Collette, and one great-granddaughter, Lacie Collette, all of Gainesville; three brothers and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and one brother.

Pallbearers are nephews David Belz, Jr., Gary Argo, Jeffrey Bishop, Darren Bishop, Philip Belz, Ricky Belz, and Dr. Jeff Belz. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Argo and Ricky Harrison.
