Funeral services for Dr. Clyde Sager McCain, 94, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville with Rev. John Hare officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 9 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Dr. McCain passed away May 6, 2017 at his residence in Gainesville.
Clyde was born March 22, 1923 in Gainesville to H.O. and Eula McCain. On August 10, 1964, he married Janis Cannedy Holland in Wichita Falls. Dr. McCain was raised in Gainesville and attended Gainesville Public Schools. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1940 and attended Gainesville Junior College. From there, he graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL in 1946. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Optics and a Doctor of Optometry degree. Dr. McCain practiced his profession in Wichita Falls and Dallas before returning home to Gainesville in 1969 where he became co-owner, along with Dr. John Webb, of Texas State Optical. Dr. McCain retired in 2002.
Dr. Clyde McCain was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville. He served on the Board of Trustee and as an Elder of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Janis McCain of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law Leslie and Dave Stark; daughter and son-in-law Stacy and Pat Howe, all of Gainesville; grandchildren: Steven Howe, Charlie Howe and wife Rachel, Julie Howe, Lauren Denison and husband Chris, all of Gainesville, and Abbey LaSalle of Ft. Worth; great-grandchildren: Melaina, Colbie Cate, and Coda Denison, Corby and Rhys Howe, Edisyn Joyce, and Bankston LaSalle, Madden Westover, and Cooper Applegate; sister Mary McCain of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. McCain was preceded in death by: his father, H.O. and mother Eula; sisters: Ida, Eula, and Florence Emma; and brothers: Hugh and Naud.
Serving as pallbearers are: Dave Stark, Pat Howe, Steven Howe, Charlie Howe, Chris Denison, and Paul Griffith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville or Home Hospice of Cooke County.
