James Robert Lewis

Funeral services for James Robert Lewis, 85, of Gainesville, are set for 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Kremling and Rev. Robert Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church the hour prior to the service.

Mr. Lewis passed away May 13, 2017 in Gainesville. He was born August 3, 1931 in Cooke County, to William Marlin and Catherine Bernadine (Luttmer) Lewis, Sr.

James graduated from Era High School in 1951. He has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church since 1966. He also served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, serving 16 of those months in Korea. He married Mary Jean Curry, the love of his life, on April 27, 1956 in Gainesville. He retired from National Supply after 33 years of employment. He loved to travel with his wife and always enjoyed gardening in his spare time. Being surrounded by his family brought him great joy.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jean Lewis of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law Pat and Wesley Smith of Thackerville; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Paula Lewis of Valley View; many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brother Herbert Lewis; brother William Lewis; sister Joan Greiner; sister Norma Covington.

Pallbearers for the service are Bennie Rhodes, Cliffo Odom, Sparky Flint, Steven Lewis, Larry Lewis, David Covington, and honorary pallbearer Elbert Rosson.
