Esther Hill

Esther Hill, beloved mother, passed away on May 20, 2017, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, TX at the age of 96.

Esther was born March 11, 1921, in Drummond OK, to Earnest and Edna Nixon. The family moved to Vici, OK in 1931. Esther married Kenneth Earl Hill of Mutual, OK, January 25, 1939, and they moved to Gainesville, TX in 1945.

Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville, had been a co-youth director, a member of the Friendship Class, serving as secretary for several years. She was an active member of the Methodist Women’s Circle and worked at Second Time Around. Esther was a Brownie and Girl Scout co-leader, helped organize Campfire Girls and was a Boy Scout Weblo den mother.

Esther had resided at Traditions Senior Living in Sherman since March of 2011. She is survived by children Curtis J. Hill of Gainesville, TX; Jeannette Hill Idell and husband Billy of Sherman, TX; Joe K. Hill and wife Gay of Henrietta, TX, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand, great and great, great grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth E. Hill, son, Dale L. Hill and daughter-in-law Patsy Hill.

Visitation will be at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24th, followed by a graveside service beginning at 2:30 p.m. at New Resthaven Cemetery in Gainesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home Hospice of Cooke and Grayson Counties.
