James Monk Sr.

Funeral services for James Robert Monk Sr., 57, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Krugerville Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Redfearn officiating. Interment will follow at Nelson Grove Cemetery in Woodbine. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Monk passed away May 19, 2017 in Denton.

James was born August 7, 1959 in Sanger to James Richard and Wanda Joyce (Davidson) Monk. He married Cindy Lou Elzy on March 2, 1979 in Aubrey. Mr. Monk operated his own business, James Gang Construction, and was currently a foreman at Lundy Services. He loved Harley-Davison motorcycles and being around family and friends. Mr. Monk will be remembered most as a dedicated family man and a giving spirit.

Survivors include: wife Cindy Lou Monk of Gainesville; daughter Cristy Tinner and husband Edric of Gainesville; son James Robert Monk Jr. and Brittany Banks of Gainesville; grandchildren: Cassy, Kyron, James R. III, Chelsey, Brandon, Amity, and Hope; sister Barbara McEwin of Lumberton; sister Dorothy Mollen and husband David of Denton; brother David Monk of Gainesville; sister Diana Heartline and husband Robert of Denton; brother Steven Monk and wife JoAnn of Sherwood Shores; father-in-law Kenneth Elzy of Gainesville; brother-in-law Ricky Elzy of Gainesville; brother-in-law Tommy Elzy and wife Kay of Sherman; brother-in-law Mike Elzy and wife Esther of Melissa; sister-in-law Debbie Maxwell of Gainesville; brother-in-law Tony Elzy of Gainesville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Monk was preceded in death by: his parents; brother-in-law David McEwing; and mother-in-law Geraldine Elzy.

Family members will be serving as pallbearers.
