Funeral services for Harold Conway Cook, 81, of Gainesville, are set for 10:00 AM Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday May 25, 2017 at the funeral home.
Harold was born on February 6, 1936 in Ada, Oklahoma to Otis Jay Cook and Edna Elizabeth (Bergdorf) Cook. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 23, 2017 in Gainesville.
Harold graduated from Gainesville High School with the class of 1954 and attended Texas A&M for two years following. He worked for AAMCO Transmissions, Mobil Oil Company and National Supply until it closed. Afterward, he became a carpenter, with several rental homes and property. He always had several projects going at one time, but always took time out to do two of his favorite things—hunting and fishing. Almost yearly, you could find Harold at the Texas coast fishing for weeks to sometimes a month. He enjoyed watching his favorite teams- The Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Harold always had a zest for life and never met a stranger. He loved his family and friends very much and will be terribly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Richardson Cook and his sister, Norma Richardson, both of Gainesville; Sons, Greg and Alan Cook of Gainesville; Daughter, Susan Hermes and son-in-law Doug of Muenster; Daughter, Diane Palya and son-in-law Bill of Gainesville. Step-sons, Herbert Richardson of Forestburg and Don Richardson of Gainesville; Step-daughter Jo Pagel and son-in-law Dickie Pagel of Muenster; Step-daughter Norma Jean Richardson of Muenster; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edward Duane Cook, his brother-in-law Bobby Richardson and step-grandson Mark Bayer.
Pallbearers are Greg Cook, Alan Cook, Doug Hermes, Bill Palya, Herbert Richardson, Don Richardson, Chris Cook and Darrell Hermes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
Finally, a special thanks to Trio Hospice for their love and gentle care during these last few days.
