Jerry graduated Gainesville High School in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Oriskany during Vietnam. Following his service time, he married Rhonda Logue and the journey continued for 45 years. Jerry worked for Tom Thumb. He started as a sack boy in December 1972 and worked his way up to Store Director in 1977 until April 2008. He took pride in his hometown store, and was known by many as "Mr. Tom Thumb". Over 35 years at the store, he had the option of transferring many times, but wanted to raise his children in his hometown. He devoted himself to making that store "family" for all that worked there or shopped there. He prided himself as a mentor, and was always there for anyone in need.
Jerry loved music, especially playing guitar and singing with his children at various churches, nursing homes, and community activities. He had a strong sense of civic duty and tirelessly devoted time to the Lions Club, Cooke County Fair Board, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, NCTC Board of Regents, and was a die-hard supporter of United Way. In his time off, he enjoyed playing his guitar, spending time with his horses and his family, especially his grandchildren, being the most important.
