Doris Carter

A memorial service for Doris Carter, 97, of Gainesville, is set for 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Commerce Street Church of Christ with her grandson J.T. Carter officiating. A visitation will be held at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. A private burial will be held in the Fairview Cemetery.

Doris was born on August 2, 1920 in Richland to Johnny Albert Hartnett and Ruth Mae (Pond) Hartnett. She passed away on August 19, 2017 in Gainesville surrounded by her family.

Doris married Winfred H. Carter on September 10, 1940 in Corsicana. They were married 62 years until his death on January 15, 2002. Winfred and Doris moved to Gainesville in 1963 and in 1976 they opened Carter's Meat Market, which they owned and operated until their retirement. She was a member of Commerce Street Church of Christ.

She is survived by her son Fred R. Carter and his wife Jo Nell of Sanger; son Eddy H. Carter and his wife Carol of Plano; son Jim L. Carter and his wife Margaret of Lake Kiowa; grandchildren Kellie Goolsby and her husband Mark, Donna Yates and her husband Josh, Cindy Mayeau and her husband Ty, Doyle Carter and his wife Linda, Jeff Carter and his wife Shannon, J.T. Carter, Lacey Blakey and her husband Kenny, and Tony Carter; 11 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Winfred.
