Dorothy Marie Proffer

Funeral services for Dorothy Marie Proffer, 85, of Gainesville, is set for 5:00 PM Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. John Fleming officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the funeral home from 4:00-5:00 PM. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Dorothy was born on October 29, 1931 in Gainesville to Isaac Ferd Pierce and Callie Dora (Sark) Pierce. She passed away on October 24, 2017 in Gainesville.

Dorothy was a kindergarten and second grade teacher for 35 years at Gainesville ISD. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. She enjoyed playing bridge, and cooking, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Gina Henley and her husband Rob of Lindsay; daughter Sheila Hacker and her husband Michael of Sanger; grandchildren Kate Henley, Lauren Henley, and Callie Hacker; sister Pauline Howell of Gainesville; and sister Rita Talley of Sherman.

Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Rufus "Duffy" Proffer.
