Funeral services for Harlin Chandler (Chick) Spires, 92, of Gainesville, will be held at Central Baptist Church on Friday, December 8, 2017 beginning with a visitation at 11:00 AM. A meal will immediately follow the visitation and conclude with the funeral service officiated by Rev. Eddy Johnson. The family will then have a graveside service at 2:00 PM in Fairview Cemetery.
Chick was born September 24, 1925 in Gainesville to Cicero H. and Alma L. Rosenfield Spires. He passed away peacefully at home.
Mr. Spires served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from many years of service with Southwestern Bell. He was a skilled home builder, floral landscaper and gardener. His home and his church were beautiful reflection of his many talents. He also loved to cook and fed us all well for many years.
Chick sang specials in his church often and always shared making snowcones at vacation bible school every summer with his wife Bobbie. He was very fun, fun loving, and was always ready for a dance from time to time.
Survivors include his wife Bobbie; daughter Sunya Brown; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Robin Links; daughter and son-in-law Debra Links Bentley and Keith Bentley; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother James Spires; many nieces and nephews.
Chick was preceded in death by his parents; son Brent; sisters Emmer, Edna, Bea, Katy, and Damie; brothers Albert, George; and Aubrey.
