JAMES EVERETT MARLER III
A true spark lit into the world on December 12, 1953 that turned out to be James Everett Marler III. Betty Ina Smith Marler and James Everett Marler Jr. were the parents of Everett and were part of a close knit clan in a small town named Colfax, LA. He had one sibling and her name is Miriam Kay Marler Otts.
While growing up, he and his four cousins would run around like a band of wild Indians. His father would take him duck hunting in the pre-dawn hours. Everett was a dedicated dove hunter. Everett’s parents moved to Gainesville, TX. Everett developed a strong passion for basketball and was a starter in high school varsity. He also broke the state high jump record in high school.
Everett went to the University of Texas. He got his degree in business as an entrepreneur. Everett’s father ran the Ford house in Gainesville and passed away during his last semester of school. He managed to take care of the dealership, his mother, and finished his degree. He then became the youngest ford dealer in the United States and ran the dealership with his mother. This made him the third generation of his family to be a car salesman.
He fell in love at first sight with Carol Ann Barnes. Everett knew from the beginning that she was meant for him and he was meant for her. He soon partnered with Jerry Barnes and ran Indian Oil Company. Everett and his wife had two children then, Elizabeth Ann Marler (Reyna) and Erin Everett Marler. He sold the dealership years later and created new opportunities. He was a born salesman and founded a used car dealership in 1994. He then had a daughter named Jessica Leann Marler. He has four grandchildren; Marley, Holden, Elijah, and Sawyer. The funeral service is at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home at 10:00AM on Friday morning January 5, 2018.
