Funeral services for Julius Edward Metzler, 87, of Lindsay, are set for 10:00 AM Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lindsay. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. A visitation following the rosary will be held at Centennial Hall.
Julius was born on June 8, 1930 in Lindsay to Phillip Metzler and Frances (Schmitz) Metzler. He passed away on January 9, 2018 in Gainesville.
He married Marcella Hess on June 15, 1954 in Lindsay, Texas and they had four children, Jim, Glenn, Mary Lou, and Kay Lynn. Julius lived in Cooke County his entire life. He was a farmer and raised cattle and hogs. He raised pigs for Jimmy Dean sausage with as many as 350 young pigs at a time. His children will always remember the huge trucks coming to pick up the pigs. Julius always enjoyed checking on his livestock. He was proud that he built his barns and facilities himself with the help of his sons.
In later life, Julius owned and operated Metzler's Liquor for 16 years in Lindsay from 1981 to 1997 making many friends and acquaintances along the way. He was known to always have a story to tell and loved to make people laugh.
Julius is survived by his son Jim Metzler and his wife Christine of Lindsay; son Glenn Metzler of Lindsay; daughter Mary Reiter and her husband Lloyd of Lindsay; daughter Kay Lynn Morgan and her husband Jimmy of Whitesboro; grandchildren Jennifer Mendez and husband Steve, Sherry Balthrop and husband Jeff, David Metzler, Josh Jones and wife Jennifer, Jessie Metzler, Casey Stewart, Brooke Metzler, Travis Reiter, Karissa Reiter, Austin Reiter and his wife Mackenzie, Chisam Reiter and his fiance' Mackenzie Benton, Kyle Grewing, Kevin Grewing and his fiance' RaShae Kemp, Kristen Grewing, Montana Morgan, Jannay Morgan, and Tiana Morgan and fiance' Cody Mills; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He also is survived by his brother Dutch Metzler and his wife Marie; brother Bill Metzler and his wife Ethel; brother Raymond Metzler and his wife Helen; sister Anna Belle Dieter and her husband Rudy; and sister Virginia Noggler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marcella Metzler; infant brother William Metzler; brother and sister-in-law Leroy and Peggy Metaler; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Verena Metzler; and brother-in-law Ted Noggler.
The pallbearers are as follows: David Metzler, Travis Reiter, Austin Reiter, Chisam Reiter, Kyle Grewing, Kevin Grewing, Jeff Balthrop, and Steve Mendez Jr.
