A private family graveside service for Valerie Belsher, 85, of Gainesville is set for Wednesday at Sadler Cemetery in Grayson County. Arrangements are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Mrs. Belsher died March 2, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 9, 1922, at her home in Smith County to Lee J. and Estella Aaron James. On May 31, 1946, she married Joseph Barton Belsher in San Antonio. Valerie Belsher attended school through the eighth grade at Jamestown, Texas, and graduated from Van High School in Van, Texas. Her primary occupation was homemaker and then worked for many years until retirement as the secretary at Grand Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Ed Langham of Odessa, Sarah and Larry Beck of Gainesville, Peggy and Thomas Farris of Denton, and Patsy and Bill Lawler of Frisco; grandchildren, Bret and Troy Farris, Laura Beck Otts, Bart Beck, and Joe Langham; great-grandchild, Jackson James Otts, as his great-grandma said, “he has quite a name to live up to”; sister, Louise Hill of Gilmer; sister-in-law, Nell James of Mesquite; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; by her parents; by a sister, Charlene Sullivan; and a brother, Curt James.
Visitation will be at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
