Hosea Bryan Peel of Grand Prairie, TX, age 81 died July 8, 2009 in Dallas, TX. A memorial service is set for Thursday, July 16, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, Grand Prairie, TX with Rev. Gifford Long officiating. A visitation will be at the church at 6:00 PM with the memorial service to follow at 7:00 PM.
Mr. Peel was born in Hearne, TX on November 15, 1927. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jennings Bryan and Fayette Ely Peel of Hearne, TX; his sister, Jane Peel Thomason and nephew, Maurice Thomason, both of Houston, TX.
Mr. Peel was raised in Houston. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated in 1952 with a degree of Bachelor of Science on Mechanical Engineering. At Lamar High School in Houston he was Captain of the ROTC Battalion and later served in the US Navy. He married Jean Haynie in 1951 and they moved to Grand Prairie in 1952. During his life he was employed 20 years as an engineer for a major aircraft company and later worked in sales and owned his own company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie for 55 years. A Boy Scout in his youth, he was active as a leader with Boy Scout Troop 195 for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jean Haynie Peel of Grand Prairie and children; son, Thomas Bryan Peel and wife Cindy of Coppell, TX; daughters, Jane Peel Johnson and husband Ken of Mansfield, TX; and Lucy Peel Calhoun and husband John of Aledo, TX. His grandchildren include: Steve Calhoun and wife Jennifer, Jessica Johnson, Kyle Johnson and fiancée Julia Thornton, Curtis Peel, Brad Calhoun, Collin Peel and Anne Peel.
Memorials may be made to the Bement Scout Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 122 N. Center, Grand Prairie, TX 75050 or a charity of choice.
Services are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville, TX.
