Services for Sammie Gene Sconce, age 80, of Gainesville are set for 2:00 PM Sunday May 20th at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Chapel. Burial will be at New Rest Haven Cemetery. Family visitation will be Saturday from 5-6 PM at Geo. J. Carroll Chapel. Mr. Sconce died May 17th at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.
He was born June 10, 1926 in Marietta, Oklahoma to Jack & Lillie Sconce. He married Lela Scott Lewter on May 15, 1971. Sam served his country in the US Navy during WW II. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad and enjoyed many years of gardening, raising chickens and going to flea markets.
He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law Jerry & Donna Sconce of Gainesville, daughters & son-in-laws Linda & Bob Burge of Cleburne, Laverne & David Johnson of Covington, LA., Betty & DeWayne McFarland of Woodbine, Glenda & John Walterscheid of Gainesville, Dorothy & Jack Wheeler of Flower Mound, Joyce & Robert DeLaney of Carrollton, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sisters Lorene Shankles of Oklahoma & Lou Simon of Grand Prairie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lela Sconce, his daughter Sammie Owen, sisters Ruth Loving & Rachel McSparron and his brothers J.C. & Elbert Sconce.
