Jeri as she was known to her many friends passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Olive Branch, Illinois where she graduated from high school. Jeri earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of North Texas. She met her future husband Robert H. Solomon (Bob) while in college. They were married in 1948 at Cairo, Illinois. Shortly after Bob’s stint of duty was completed they returned to Texas. He took over the family owned Valley View Independent Telephone Company.
Retirement brought Jeri and Bob to Lake Kiowa in 1974. During Lake Kiowa’s early years, Jeri served as president of the Lake Kiowa Women’s Club, president of the Women’s Golf Association and president of the Lake Kiowa Fire Auxiliary. Later she organized the Early Settler’s Reunion. Much of Jeri’s life was filled with volunteer work, as prior to the Lake Kiowa years she taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, Red Cross Swimming lessons and was involved in leadership with Camp Fire. In addition, Jeri enjoyed her friends, family, golf and travel. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville.
Jeri is preceded in death by her first husband Robert H. Solomon; and her second husband Robert A. McMurray.
She is survived by her daughter Betty Minshew, granddaughters Michelle and Elise Minshew of Cedar Hill, Texas and granddaughter Traci and husband, Collin McCombs of Midlothian, Texas. Daughter Diane and son-in-law Robbie Baugh of Gainesville, Texas, grandchildren Sally Baugh and Bradley Baugh. Daughter Jill and son-in-law Kevin Murphy, grandson Mark Murphy of Hayden, Colorado and granddaughter Cherissee and husband John Pinnt of Helper, Utah and great-granddaughters Cheianne, Kayla and Quinn Pinnt.
Pallbearers are Robbie Baugh, Bradley Baugh, Kevin Murphy, Mark Murphy, Kyle Lyons and Jim Colbert.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 23, from 7p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services are Thursday, January 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Geo. J. Carrol & Son Funeral Home officiated by Rev. J. L. Williams with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
