Funeral Services for Lena Marie Clodfelter are set for Monday, December 31, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery.
Lena Marie Clodfelter was born on January 7, 1913, in Dexter, TX. Her parents were Addie Blair Roberson and Alvin Roberson. She passed away on December 29, 2007. Lena was a member of Whaley United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Gainesville High School and Gainesville Junior College and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from North Texas State Teachers College (now UNT) on December 31, 1942. Her teaching career spanned 39 year. Lena began teaching when she was 19 because a Bachelors degree was not required until later. She taught at Delaware Bend, Hagerman, Wilmer-Hutchins, and Valley View, spending the last 23 years at Valley View. Lena married William Ralp Clodfelter on November 27, 1942 in New York City. Ralp was in the Navy and was preparing to leave for overseas duty when they married. During WWII, Lena worked at Camp Howze as an accountant in the post laundry. Upon Ralp's safe return, they settled in Gainesville, TX. Mrs. Clodfelter was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralp Clodfelter; sisters, Mildred Allen and Catherine Blair; and niece Billie Marie Allen Brown. She is survived by nieces and husbands Dan and Fran Schully; Sue and Cecil W. Welch, Jr.; nephew David Allen; niece Frances Bell, nephew Jesse Carroll Clodfelter; and many cousins and great-nieces and nephews and their families.
