Services for Lorraine Matthews, 68, of Gainesville are set for 9.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gainesville. Revs. Pat Murphy, O.S.A. and Don Brennan, O.S.A., are officiating. Burial follows at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sherman, under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Matthews died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 28, 1939, in Muenster to Bernard “B.J.” and Adeline Yosten Sicking. On June 21, 1958 she married Willie Matthews in Muenster.

Lorraine grew up on a farm in Muenster. Lorraine and Willie Matthews resided in Sulphur Springs and Greenville before moving to Gainesville. She was office manager at M&S Dairy and Farm Center in Gainesville and was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society and was a sponcor of the R.C.I.A. and a Lector. Her hobbies were painting, needlework, including knitting and counted cross-stitch and music. She enjoyed her greenhouse, pets and bird sanctuary.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Matthews, her mother, Adeline Sicking of Muenster; daughter, Charlotte Matthews of Gainesville; sons, John and David Matthews both of Gainesville; and her special friend, Bonnie Louise Brooks of Gainesville; four grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; her brothers Jimmy Sicking and his wife, Gloria of Tulsa, Okla., Melvin Sicking and his wife, Sheila of Callisburg, Herbert Sicking of Muenster, Wayne Sicking and his wife, Marie of Lawton, Okla., Alan Michael Sicking and his wife, Martha of Muenster; and sisters, Betty Schneck and her husband, Bill of Lewisville; Judy Kittler and her husband, Ben of Bryant, Ark.; Donna Schad and her husband, Don of Lindsay, Denise Landers and her husband, James of Forestburg; and sister-in-law, Annie Matthews Kremer of Sherman.

Pallbearers are Justin Landers, Shannon Schad, Shawn, Jamie, Bart and Clint Sicking.

The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today followed by a visitation at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School Foundation Scholarship Fund.
