MARGIE (CHILDS) SPANN



Margie (Childs) Spann, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law, died on January 15 in Denton. She was born to George Robert and Laurence (Roach) Childs on March 17, 1922 at home in Blue Grove, Texas. Educated in Blue Grove and Henrietta, Texas, she graduated form Henrietta High School in 1939. Margie worked in the family grocery store until her marriage to Clyde Spann in St. Louis, Missouri in 1944. Her husband was called into the Baptist ministry, and they lived and pastored in several towns and cities in Texas and Oklahoma.



Margie received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma. She taught high school English in Marietta and Thackerville, Oklahoma for 22 years. After retirement she enjoyed her church work for First Baptist Church in Gainesville. She also greatly enjoyed being involved in several women’s clubs where she had many friends. Her greatest joy, however, was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone in Margie’s family knew a very special love from her, and she was loved by them in a very special way.



Her husband, Clyde Spann, of 52 years died in 1996. She is survived by her two daughters and their families: Melinda and Gene Lewis, Melissa and Wayne Grissom; granddaughters and spouses, Whitney and Josh Leverett and Abby and Eric Butler; great grandchildren, Avery and Graham Leverett and Blake and Ava Grace Butler.



Services will be on Monday, January 19, 2:00, at George J. Carroll Funeral Home. The viewing will be on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00.
