MARIE RIVOIRE “NENA” TURBEVILLE COTTEN
Funeral services for Marie Rivoire “Nena” Turbeville Cotten, 81, are set for Monday July 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Hare, minister of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cotten died on July 10, 2009 at Renaissance Care Center in Gainesville.
She was born on May 5, 1928 to John Daniel and Dealie Bearden Rivoire. Marie grew up in the Wolf Ridge area (Camp Howze) on a ranch. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1945.
Marie married Clarence S. Turbeville in 1947. They were married for 37 years until his sudden death in August 1984. From that union three sons were born, Randy, Mike and Danny.
On Nov. 22, 1986 she married Sam Cotten who graduated with her from Gainesville High School. They were reunited at a high school reunion and were married for 22 wonderful years.
Her life achievements include serving many years on the board of Morton Museum. She was a member of the Maggie Hill Garden Club and served on various committees of First Presbyterian Church.
Her greatest achievement of all was as "Nena," as she was called, loving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her home and a host of friends.
Survivors are her husband, Sam Cotten; sons, Randy and wife Debby, Mike and Danny, all of Gainesville; grandchildren, Joe Turbeville and wife Kelly of Keller, Scott Turbeville and wife Carrie of Lindsay, Tara Havercamp and husband Zach of Little Elm, Brooks Turbeville and wife Molly of Gainesville, Dusty Turbeville of Austin, Carissia Taylor of Gainesville, Jarred, Jordon and Jace Turbeville of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hunter and Walker Turbeville of Keller Kinzy and Rileigh Turbeville of Lindsay, Logan and Blair Havercamp of Little Elm, Trisha Ashley and Shea Taylor of Gainesville and Jackson Hubbard of Gainesville, Stepsons Kelly and wife Lisa Cotten and children, Mei and Michael of Dallas and Kyle Cotten of Dallas; Laura Taylor and Cade Caitlin Turbeville and a great-great-grandaughter.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence S. Turbeville in 1984; parents, John and Dealie Rivore in 1978 and 1974; brothers, Roy Lee “Bud” Rivore in 1978, Milton Rivore in 1983, Jesse Rivore in 1994 and Kenneth Rivore in 2006; sisters, Loree Blagg in 2000, Dolly Dillard in 1999, Lucille Autry in 2003 and nephew, John Kent Rivoire in 1954.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Visitation was at the funeral home from 5-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009.
