Services for John M. Kee, 84, of Gainesville are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church’s Christian Life Center with Rev. Dr. Eddie Chennault officiating. Burial will follow in Melissa Cemetery in Melissa under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Mr. Kee died Feb. 20, 2008, at Denton Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Wichita Falls in Joseph and Sarah York Kee. On Jan. 2, 2000, he married Betty Boone in Gainesville. He was a carpenter by profession until his retirement. He was a member of the Post Office Auxiliary for 40 years and lived most of his life in Melissa. He was a Deacon for 40 years at the First Baptist Church at Melissa. He was a member of AARP and was a board member of R.V.S.P. He was a member of the Good Sams Travel Club and enjoyed domino games at the Stanford House in Gainesville and entertaining, singing and playing at nursing homes. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was awarded the Purple Heart while in the Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Robison Boone Kee of Gainesville; daughters, Jaqueta Hardin of Henderson, Julie Stephen of Princeton, and Jonna Hunt of Anna; step-sons, Robert Boone and Steve Boone, both of Gainesville; step-daughter, Jana Smith of Denton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers, Leon Kee of Pottsboro and Dayrl Kee of Duncanville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph Kee on May 13, 2005; three brothers; and a sister.
Pallbearers are David Hendry, Ken Blakey, Hal Collum, James Bellows, Gil Mashburn, Bill Brannan, George Jones and Joe Clark.
Honorary pallbearers are Disciples Class members of the Temple Baptist Sunday School.
Visitation will be at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Friday.
