Archie Deen Lewis Jr.

Memorial service for Archie Deen Lewis Jr. were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, officiated by the Rev. John Hare.

Mr. Lewis died Feb. 16, 2008, in Gainesville.

He was born Oct. 4, 1930, in Shreveport, La., the only child of Archie and Hazel Willis Lewis. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1951 with a B.S. degree in business and marketing. He was an Air Force pilot and served his country during the Korean War. He married Ruth Horner on March 3, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was in sales for General Electric for over 35 years. Following his retirement from GE, he had a second career selling real estate at Lake Kiowa. He and his family moved to Lake Kiowa in 1973 where he became involved in Cooke County Boys’ Baseball, serving as president for several years. He also coached for eight years. He enjoyed the Gainesville Leopards and the Leopard Marching Band. For the past couple of years, he enjoyed having coffee with his buddies at the First State Bank at Lake Kiowa. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and was a member of the Men’s Golf Association at Lake Kiowa.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Lake Kiowa; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Jeff Horn of West, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Dawn Lewis of Grapevine; five grandchildren; and other relatives.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association; Cooke County Home Hospice; First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville; or to the Lake Kiowa Fire Department.
