DRUCILLA “DRU” GEISEL
Memorial service for Drucilla “Dru” Geisel, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2008, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. J.L. Williams officiating. Private interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening, February 21 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Dru passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the North Texas Medical Center.
She was born June 7, 1921, to the late Elma and Henry McSwain in Johnson County in Arkansas.
On November 5, 2007, she and the love of her life, Vic Geisel celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends at their home. They started their life together in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, but moved to Gainesville in 1951. In Gainesville, she found life-long friends and a great church family. She has been a faithful member of the First Baptist Church since she moved to Gainesville.
One of the oldest working beauticians in the state of Texas, she worked as a licensed beautician for 65 years — from 1942 until the summer of 2007. She always looked forward to going to the beauty shop to be with the ladies she worked with and her life-long customers. She worked for Morris & Ruth Beauty Shoppe and Tempa’s Beauty Salon.
Dru was known by everyone for her hilarious pranks, boundless devotion and protective concern for her friends, family, the ladies she worked with and her customers. She always had a smile for everyone and a hug.
Survivors include her devoted husband and companion, Victor Geisel; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Vickie Geisel and Dr. Larry Williams of Athens; one brother, Heartsill McSwain of Fort Smith, Arkansas; sister, Ruth Brasuell of Eugene, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews; many good friends; and a special long-time friend, Jewell Linn, who was always driving her places — since she never learned how to drive. Every morning you could find them out for coffee.
The family would like to thank the kindness of Velma Richey and Gail Bryant — two angels who have been her caregivers and her many, many friends; and her other family, the relatives of Nora Morris.
Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Stroud, Jerry Estes, Lee J. Capps, Curtis Brooks, Margaret Galubenski, Cookie Trammell, Brenda Dean, Glenda Carter, and Jo Ann Powell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the NCTC Foundation or to the Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter; 2501 N. Weaver; Gainesville, TX 76240.
