LAKE KIOWA — Services for Paul Ashworth, 78, of Lake Kiowa are set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Pat Murphy, O.S.A., officiating. A memorial service will be conducted in Erie at a later date. Burial will follow in the DFW National Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Mr. Ashworth died Feb. 4, 2008, at North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville.
He was born April 27, 1929, in Erie, Penn., to George and Wilda Wilkinson Ashworth. On Dec. 19, 1953, he married Carolyn Winzenried in Houston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1977 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a navigator in a fighter squadron, then served in Europe for NATO, and subsequently served in Vietnam. Following his military service, he became the lab manager at St. Vincent’s Health Center in Erie. He later moved to Lake Kiowa in 1989. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Ashworth of Lake Kiowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Barbara Ashworth of Dallas and George and Kathy Ashworth of LaPorte; four grandchildren; sisters, Mary Anne Ashworth and Sister Marie Paul Ashworth, SSJ, both of Erie; brother-in-law, Dan Winzenried of Alvin; and sister-in-law, Lucille Ash of El Campo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers are the Knights of Columbus members.
Honorary pallbearer will be Paul Carrick.
Visitation will be at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
