Celebration of Life Services for Josephine Elkins Berry, 99, of Rosston are planned for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 24th at the Rosston Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Dunson officiating. A family burial will be in the Rosston Cemetery under the direction of the George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Josephine Berry passed away on February 21, 2009 at St. Richards Villa in Muenster, Texas. She was born June 8,1909, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Butler Elkins, Cooke County pioneers.
She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1926 and continued her education at Cooke County Jr. College and North Texas Teacher's College, now the University of North Texas. She was a teacher in Callisburg and Rosston before her marriage.

On December 24, 1933, she married George G. Berry of Rosston. In Rosston, they owned and operated the Rosston General Store for many years and farmed and ranched. Together they had two children, Lt. Col. Joe Frank Berry and Janice Berry Conkwright.
Mrs. Berry was an accomplished homemaker and actively involved in church and community endeavors. She was active in the Rosston Home Demonstration Club and helped to sponsor 4-H clubs.
She was a committed Christian and a life-long Methodist. Mrs. Berry was a hospitable hostess who treasured family gatherings. She and Veda Magee, a cousin of her husband, George Berry, collaborated on20three books of genealogy chronicling the Berry family. Several trips were taken throughout the southwestern United States visiting relatives brought together by the “Berry Pickin” books.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Berry Conkwright and her husband, Jim Conkwright of Lubbock, and their daughters, Robin Conkwright also of Lubbock and Leslie Conkwright Acton and her husband, Scott Acton of Charlottesville,VA; a grandson, Byron Berry and his wife Rhonda of Rosston; a granddaughter, Brenda Russell and her husband Mike of Frisco; a granddaughter, Carolyn Berry Sappington and her husband, Courtney of Maplewood, New Jersey; and a grandson Brandon Berry of Rosston; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and Veda Magee, a special friend and co-author.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Berry in 1988 and her son, Joe Frank Berry in 2001.
The family is appreciative of the staff at St. Richard’s Villa in Muenster for the years of care she received.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Rosston Cemetery Association and/or Rosston Methodist Church.
