On Nov. 13, 1924, God gave the world possibly one of his most giving and selfless souls, Margaret Plumlee Biffle.
Margaret, a beautiful woman, who submerged herself in her family, friends and community, was called home to Jesus on Feb. 15 2009, leaving behind a legacy that cannot be denied.
On April 23, 1984, Margaret was awarded the Beta Sigma Phi Lady of the year award for her tireless service to her community. She is the sole founder of the Cooke County Voluntary Action Center. Being sensitive to the needs of families, she formed the Littlest Angels Christmas organization and chaired the Voluntary Action Food Bank. A United Way advocate, she worked as a campaign manager in Gainesville, leading the organization in one of its most successful campaigns. She also was an active volunteer who worked along side Margaret Parks Hayes in the Mental Health Clinic for 8 years.
Margaret’s endless acts of humanity and kindness were further demonstrated when she used her own money and resources to attend workshops so that she could learn how to gather the attention and commitments for civic organizations, Gainesville Memorial Hospital, ministers, the Child Development Center and the State School.
Margaret was a member of the Garden Study Club, Thespian Book Club and the 1st Christian Woman’s Society. Her accomplishments are many and the lives she touched are infinite in number.
Margaret is preceded in death by her first husband James Douglas Plumlee and her late husband Joe Biffle. She is survived by her sons Tim Plumlee and his wife Terri, Tony Plumlee and his wife Lynda, her brother Harvey Elkins, her sister Wanda Britton, her grandchildren Twylight Allison, Jenni Lou Plumlee, Corey Plumlee, Cody Plumlee and Danny Macdougall.
The viewing will be held at Geo. J Carroll Funeral Home on today, Feb. 16 from 7-8 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at 1st Christian Church of Gainesville on Tuesday Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
