Jimmy Dale Mckinnon

Funeral Services for Mr. Jimmy Dale McKinnon, 61, of Gainesville are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Prairie Grove Baptist Church near Valley View with Bro. Gary Carter and Bro. David Rhea officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery with Military Burial Rites under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson, OK.

Jimmy was born March 8, 1947 at Reck, OK to Mr. Taylor Richard and Mrs. Nora Bell (Copeland) McKinnon. He departed this life Friday November 21, 2008 at his residence in Gainesville.

Jimmy was raised at Reck and Wilson attending school at Zaneis and Wilson graduating from Wilson High School in 1965. He joined the United States Navy August of 1965 serving honorably for 4 ½ years on the U.S.S. Springfield during the Vietnam Era. After his military service, Jim returned to the States and began his career in construction, working in the Gulf out of Houston, later becoming a Tug Boat Captain until 1980. He and the former Ms. Carolyn Gray were united in marriage December 14, 1979 at Gainesville, TX. Since then he has continued to work in construction, and was presently employed as a Damage Prevention Coordinator with Texas Electric Utility Construction based out of Sherman, TX. He and Carolyn have been residents of Gainesville since 1981. Some of Jim’s favorite occasions were being with his grandchildren and family.

Preceding him in death is his Father, Mr. Taylor Richard McKinnon, 2 Brothers, Richard Wayne McKinnon and Tony Lynn McKinnon and 1 grandson Colby Johnson.

Survivors include his beloved wife Carolyn of the home in Gainesville, His Mother, Nora (Copeland) McKinnon of Ringling, 2 Daughters, Jennifer Rico and husband Joe of Gainesville, and Portia McKinnon and Fiancé Dennis Murley of Gainesville. 2 Sons, Jason Ward and wife Cynthia of Valley View, and David Johnson and wife Samantha, also of Valley View. 3 Sisters, Donna K. Cochran and husband Hal of Kingston, Pam Taylor and husband Gerald of Ringling, and Cynthia Shackelford of Durant. Grandchildren, Whitley Johnson, Makayla Johnson, Taylor Ward, Christopher Reasor, JD Johnson, Cheyenne Kirk, Chase Waterhouse, Bailey Rico, Cashe Waterhouse and Eric Ward. Numerous other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Don Cato, Ricky Gray, Lonnie Brooks, Bobby Sansbury, Stephen Brooks, Joseph Rhea, Colby Sparks and Brad McKinnon.

Honorary bearers will be Grandchildren

Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm Sunday at the George Carroll Funeral Home in Gainesville, TX.
