Funeral services for Johnny Roy Richardson, 85, of Rosston, are set for 2:00 PM Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Sonny Cole and Ozzy McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosston Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Richardson died on November 16, 2010 in Gainesville.
Johnny Roy was born November 11, 1925 in El Paso to John and Lyndel Penton Richardson. He married Willie Mae Kuykendall on October, 14 1944. They resided in Dallas where he owned his own tile business and was a pioneer of the cultured marble business. When he retired in 1995, they returned to his childhood home in Rosston. He was a go-getter and always full of energy.
Mr. Richardson served during WWII as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. While enlisted, he enjoyed boxing and held the welterweight K.O. record and earned the nickname “Joltin’ John.” He enjoyed cooking and sharing homemade sourdough bread with family and friends as well as fishing, hunting, and camping. He will be remembered for his annual 4th of July campouts. John was up for any adventure and was always the life of the party.
Johnny was a great patriot, husband, father, and friend. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife Willie Mae Richardson of Rosston; his daughters Teresa Jenkins, Debra Flowers, Delaina Sims, and Joan McDaniel; his son Johnny Richardson, Jr.; his siblings Mary Jo Thompson, Wynell Nolen, Tom Richardson Sr., and Treva Trigg. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dan Richardson.
