Lee Schroeder

Lee Schroeder, 88, loving husband, daddy, grandpa and friend, of Gainesville, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at North Texas Medical Center.

Lee was born Aug. 29, 1919, in Tioga to Louis and Ella Suter Schroeder. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served as a radio operator in the Pacific during World War II. Lee married Frances Simmel on Aug. 26, 1947, and settled in the Gainesville area where they raised five daughters. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Lee is survived by his wife, Frances, along with five daughters and their husbands, Peggy and Gary Martin og Gainesville; Tricia and Steve Dodson of Thompkinsville, Ky.; Donna and Ken Odell of Gainesville; Sandy and Mark Erwin of Austin; ad Lorie and Doug Morris of Gainesville. Grandchildren include Scott and Ninoska Martin of Denton; Dennis Martin of Dallas; Eric and Brandie Martin and Danny Martin of Austin; Kendyl and Heather Odell of Gainesville; Rachel and Natalie Erwin of Austin; and Wes and Ranee Morrison of Gainesville; a great-granddaughter, Sailor Martin of Dallas; brothers Alvin and Marvin Schroeder and a sister, Esther Lubbers. He is also survived by 26 nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, along with three brothers, Oscar, John and Harry Schroeder.

A rosary, followed by a visitation, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at 7 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Pat Murphy, O.S.A., with internment to follow at New Resthaven Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott, Dennis, Eric and Danny Martin; Mark Erwin; and Wes Morrison.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Home Hospice of Cooke County, P.O. Box 936, Gainesville, TX 76241; or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 825 N. Weaver St., Gainesville, TX 76240.
