Services for Jimmie Ray Popejoy, 73, of Gainesville are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Mullennix and Rev. Larry Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.

Mr. Popejoy died Sept. 16, 2007, at the Dallas V.A. Hospital.

He was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Montague County to Hillis and Beulah Phores Popejoy. On June 12, 1954, he married Norma Alexander in Gainesville. Jimmie Ray Popejoy was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army of the United States at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful pieces of furniture at the V.A. School. He was a former employee of Joe Walter Lumber Company and Central Freight Lines.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Lonnie Brooks; daughter, Shirley Mullennix; son, Dennis Popejoy, all of Gainesville; Norma Alexander, the mother of his children; grandchildren, Kenny Eddowes, Steven Brooks and his wife, Brandi; Chris Mullennix and his wife, Priscilla, Jonathan Mullennix, Shawn Brooks, and Angela Popejoy; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Amanda Abby and Nathan Eddowes, Starla Mullennix, Tyler Brooks and Ashlyn Brooks; brother, Virgil Popejoy of Burkburnett, and Johnny Popejoy of Gainesville; and sisters, Virginia Robison of Gainesville and Beatrice Langston of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Franklin Popejoy; and a great-grandson, Hunter Brooks.

Pallbearers are Kenny Eddowes, Steven Brooks, Jonathan Mullennix, Shawn Brooks, Sam Cloer, and Derek Spindle.

Visitation will be at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
