Funeral arrangements for Neil Tibbets, 83, of Gainesville, are set for 10:00 am Wednesday October 27, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Hubert Wright officiating under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A private burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. A Visitation will be held at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Tuesday October 26, 2010 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.
Neil died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Tibbets was born December 7, 1926 on the farm in Haskell County, TX to F.E. and Lou Allie Yarborough Tibbets. He graduated high school in 1944 from Rule, TX and served his country in the US Army during World War II. He later graduated from Texas Tech University in 1953. He also served 28 years as a county Agriculture Extension agent in Cleburne, Dallas, and Gainesville, TX. He served the First Baptist Church in Gainesville as deacon for 48 years and served as a board member at North Central Texas College.
Neil is survived by his wife Mary Hunsucker Tibbets of 53 years; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Penny Tibbets of Paris, TX; son and daughter-in-law Martin and Susan Tibbets of Newton, KS; 7 grandchildren: Jessica and her husband Ahmad of Austin, TX, Collin of College Station, Garrett of Lawrence, KS, Parker of Paris, TX Libby, Maylon, and Mary of Newton, KS. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Verna Lou and Reagan Butler of Canadian, TX and brother-in-law Joe Holder of Bonham, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Floyene Holder.
Pallbearers will be Joe Gibson, Ted Thurston, Robert Hickman, Sam Houston, Robert Voth, and Larry Knabe. Honorary Pallbearers are Doug Selby, M. C. Legge, Vernon Davis, Lacey Wheeler, Doyce Cook, and Daryl Barnes.
