Services for Dorothy A. Nieman, 83, of Gainesville are set for noon Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jo Branon officiating. Private interment will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Mrs. Nieman died June 24, 2007, at North Texas Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Toledo, Ohio, to George Joseph and Julia Lillian Snippes Sutkaitis. On May 8, 1948, she married Herman Nieman Jr. in Sylvania, Ohio. She graduated from Sylvania (Ohio) High School and earned her education as a registered nurse at Toledo State Hospital. She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing at the University of Texas in Arlington. She taught nursing at North Central Texas College for a number of years, in licensed vocational nursing. She also served as director of nurses at Gainesville Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a Red Cross volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Herman Nieman Jr. of Gainesville; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles D. Nieman of Lewisville and David A. and Jan Nieman of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter and son-in-law, Ann Louise Nieman and George Wright V of Coppell; three grandchildren; and sister, Alice Reardon of Oswego, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Vito and George Sutkaitis; and her sister, Ruth Friess.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Blessing, Elwoody Nieman, Pat Price, Henry Japp, Phil Schenk and James Marshall.
Visitation will be at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
